Small businesses need quality websites too

You may run a small or very small business with a limited budget, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a quality, professional website.
In fact, there is no excuse not to have a quality, professional website, because it’s just not that expensive, or that hard to do.
As in many technology realms, the amount of bang you get for your buck these days for a website is astounding. Technologies that used to cost thousands of dollars are now available for free or for a very low cost.
Remember when a decent digital camera cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars? And now we have very high quality cameras built right into our smartphones.
The same goes with websites. With Open Source CMS’ like WordPress, and high quality themes and templates available for under $100, or even free, there is no excuse for having a lousy or horribly outdated site, even for the smallest of businesses.
If your website is dated, doesn’t work well on mobile devices, or hasn’t been updated forever, it says more about you and your business than you may think. If your primary way of being found by your clients is through the web, and especially if you are a brick and mortar business that relies on search results, it can be mission critical to get your website caught up with modern times. Google will ding you on search results if your website isn’t optimized for mobile devices.
And more and more people shop for businesses on their mobile devices, not desktops or laptops, so your customers may never find you if your website isn’t optimized for mobile devices. Ouch.
An outdated website can be brought up to speed without breaking the bank. If you’ve got good content but just a dated look, it may be easier than you think.
Your site can be ported to a modern CMS like WordPress, which will allow you to easily update the content yourself, add more content regularly to the site easily (good for SEO), engage more potential visitors, and get more business. And that’s what it’s all about, right? Unless your site is huge or is in some way complicated, it is not difficult or expensive to migrate to WordPress.
If you already have a WordPress website, it may be a matter of installing a new theme for the website and setting it up. Voila! You’ve got a new, mobile responsive website that will be Google approved, modern, and fresh.
If you are on a tight budget, or just getting started in your business, there are many quality themes available for all kinds of business types that can be installed on your site. Or, if you can’t find the perfect theme for your business, a theme can be created or customized to fit your needs, and you get a high quality website at a very reasonable cost, often well under $1000 for a simple website.
In the big scheme of things, your website is an amazingly low cost marketing tool that can bring you business if it is used properly. Make the effort to keep it fresh, up-to-date, and functioning well on modern devices, either through professional help, or yourself if you are a do it yourselfer. Really, it’s not that hard! But it is so worth it.
